Blog No. 5

I realize the blogs are following right after each other, but I found this article and it said exactly what I have been thinking - Because of instant news and editing capabilities, no one is really listening to each other.  Read the article "Can We Please Shut Up and Listen" at http://www.comcast.net/articles/sports-general/20100721/Russakoff-Shut-Up-And-Listen/
Now, tell me, what you think - is he right or do you think we need to be careful about offending people?  Do we sensationalize everything so that now the important things do not matter?  After over a week of Lindsey Lohan coverage, the news media says she will only serve two weeks of her 90 day sentence due to jail overcrowding.  I do not mean to sound like Debbe Downer, but I do not understand this fascination with celebrities when real life such as unemployment, inflation, medicare cuts and wars are affecting people we know and love.  Just a thought.

I think we need to be careful when it comes down to offending others. Take a good look at yourself in the mirror before you go of blabbing at the mouth about someone else. Take care of your own flaws. It hurts others when you offend them no matter how it might come off across as. Nobody's Perfect! Take a Look at Yourself in the Mirror!

We do need to be careful and considerate about others feelings. To me offending others is just plain out stupid and if you ask me shows low self-esteem.

This topic is extremely pertinent. People are almost afraid to exercise their First-Amendment right to free speech for fear of persecution; either by the media if they are public figures, or by friends on their facebook page. It is OUR fault. We do not speak out loudly enough against "fluff" and extremely bias news media that is taking control of the popular opinion of our country with what is essentially Propaganda. Edward R. Murrow, one of the most respected journalists of all time, was feared by politicians and loved by the people because he asked the tough questions about real issues with no regard to his bank account or even his job. He considered it his 'responsibility' as a news man to portray the truth and not what he thought people wanted to hear. It makes me sad hear people quoting "Bill O'Riley" when trying to establish the validity of their arguments because he is an entertainer, not a news man. Personal Opinion is a privilege of the people; not those who deliver the news. In fact, it is their job to report our news without their opinion so that we may make an unbias decision about it for ourselves without any preconceived notions that would sway our opinions one way or the other. Furthermore, it is our responsibility to "demand" this quality in the news. As long as we keep tuning in to news programs who spend more time broadcasting the day-to-day happenings of Brittany Spears or Brangelina then we will continue to see a decline in the quality of the news and in the intelligence of the people.

I think we do need to consider people feelings because what if someone was saying the same thing about you. You would get offended too. The people who offend others like that have nothing else to do.

I think we do need to be careful of what we say. We as people need to think before saying anything because we offend other people not nothing that we really do. So i believe we need to look at ourselves first before we say anything about somebody.

I feel we should be careful not to offend others, but the truth is the light. The truth does hurt and no one wants to hear the truth. Many people always look at half of the picture or situation before making a commment. Please do not just take part of the situtaion and run with it. It's not waht you say but how you say it.

I think he is both right and wrong in some point. Because the media world is kind of hyperactive and likes to stretch the truth sometimes but sometimes people do need to think back to their ancestors and see where they came from.

I think that following celebrities is just an escape from our lives which are at times tragic. It's entertainment and they are in a buisness for it. I don't personally like to follow whats going on with celebrities but, I know that others find it interesting. It's only as good and big as the media makes it anyway.

I think we should take consideration of others and how they feel and we should not be looking to offend anyone becuase it is very wrong. I dont like people offending me but not too many things offend me. But everyone in the world should be considerate of others

We do need to consider other people's feelings and thought about things. No one perfect so no one cant really just talk down on another person. The truth is what hurt people the most.

Personally, I am honest. Brutally honest. Just ask my friends. I like to tell it how it is and I do not like to hold back. Why? Because I like for people to do the same to me. I am not saying go and tongue lash people over their mistakes or misfortunes. We all have skeletons in our closets or some nasty secret we wouldn't even want a deaf person to hear. But if someone ask you for the truth or for your opinion, be honest about it. So what if it hurts their feelings...it is not the end of the world. Its the truth and the truth hurts. Period

{That sounded a little harsh}

Yes!!!! We do need to be careful, sometimes the joke is not just taken lightly, but instead took the heart. I think celebrities, don't really have a life, because anything they do ..... we know about it!!!
