Blog No. 2 It's Not An Addiction, I Can Stop Anytime!

Okay, let's discuss "my friends" who are way too dependent on their computers!  I must admit, I have decided that I do spend too much time on the computer.  Instead of being more organized and less stressed, I find myself almost paralyzed and more stressed!  Visit the following websites:
Are You Suffering from Facebook Addiction and What Is Computer Addiction?.  (Just click on the titles).
Are these  addictions real in your opinion or are they a symptom of our society's new found obsession with addiction?  Tell me what you think!
If you are a SouthPark fan, google the episode about Tiger Woods.  It should be on Hulu by now.
Don't forget to add your name to your comment!

I think these addictions are not nessecarily completly real. I feel that the statement you said in the first paragraph is true: I can stop at anytime, people who visit these sites everyday, life w il not be over just because they don't go to facebook.com or anything like that. But I guess if your addicted you might feel that way. So I guess im kinda on the fense with this topic! ;-)

In my opinion I feel that facebook can be a little addicting but I feel that its not a disorder...I mean you don't have to get on facebook to communicate with all of the other technology we have now a days.

I believe anything can be an addiction. It is just not limited to Facebook or the computer. For me, once upon a time you could say I lived in Bath & Body Works. My friends had an 'intervention' for me. They noted the time and money I wasted in the store buying all of the new scents. There are others who are obsessed with buying the new Jordans, those who have to have the most recent iphone, those who have to visit the nail/hair/tan salon every week, those who have to watch every single game their favorite team is playing. {I know a guy you cannot talk to when football season is here because of the Redskins}

At the end of the day, almost everybody has some type of 'disorder' or 'addiction' that will either take up time, money, or is unhealthy. We just like to think our addiction is not as bad as the next person.

Society just has a need to label everything. Most people, if not all, have addictions, but it is unrealistic to say everyone should be medicated. I also feel that instead of doping people up, we could use more therapy to resocialize.

I do not think that one can be addicted to facebook, although some poeple can get a little obsessed with it, to me its not a big deal becuase I have gone with out it for a long time... its just something to do when youre bored although some people do get a little consumed by it. But I guess some people can get addicted to being on the computer like people who get addicted to pornography, which is pretty sad, but I dont think people should spend all their time on computers...go outside and do something.

I am not addicted to being on the computer. I think addictions are not real because people choose to do they want. They can stop what they are doing at anytime. some people say they are addicted to facebook. They are not addicted to facebook, they pretty much like being everybody business.

I can honestly say that I am not addicted to computers, websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and all that other stuff. In my opinion, I think that Facebook is way addicting for many people. For me on the other hand, I don't have this type of problem. I think that people who are addicted to the computer and websites such as Facebook etc.. have the POWER to overcome their addiction for it! It will just take discipline! Keep yourself occupied with more important things to do like God, Family, School, and Work. Trust me you want have time for all that other stuff!

I really think that facebook is an addition for most people. Last year my friend turned me on to facebook and all of the games such as farmville, soriety life and many more. I found myself staying up all night long playing games. Quickly I realized this was taking over my life. I do not use facebook as often as I did before. Please keep up with your studies beacuse facebook will get you off track quickly.

Addiction in anyform is related directly to ones personality, which is a product of their environment. I sat in on a lecture at Millsaps where the professor spoke of our need for attention being directly related to self-actualization. Facebook provides the masses with their "15 minutes of fame" 24/7 which is very appealing and almost entoxicating. Our tendencies result from deficiencies or excesses in our child hood wether we are concious of them or not. If a person is seeking an escape or attention, be it alchol or internet, there is always the potential for addiction with over-use. One phrase commonly associated with addiction is "I can quit anytime I want" (Tasha) :)..jk.. The information age coupled with the technology explosion of computers has given individuals unprecedented power and influence in a multitude of arenas. Virtually unlimited information is literally available at our fingertips. As the saying goes; "Power corrupts, but Absolute Power corrupts Absolutely." There are many benefits to computers, but there are two sides to every coin.

In my opinion i have an addiction to facebook, i feel as if i have to go on there everyday to see if anybody left me a message or to find something to do. I just love facebook. I also feel its not an disorder. I feel people just need somethings to feel like they r needed and its nothing wrong with that.

I think addictions are very real because if u find something that is obbsessive, you are going to have a very hard time quitting that and that would be an addiction

I am not an addict on the computer. I bearly use it except for work or school. Yes, some people do seem addicted to it. Especially facebook, I think its like that because everyone is on there and they want to be in your businees.I think its more of a hobby being on the computer than being addicted.
